Rocky II starts right where Rocky
leaves off. Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa are rushed to a hospital
for the injuries that they sustained in their grueling 15 round boxing match.
Apollo's ribs are badly damaged, and Rocky's eye is seriously injured
(Apollo is also the first fighter to ever break Rocky's nose). Apollo
is furious that Rocky went the distance with him, and demands a rematch,
even though he originally did not want one. Talk of the rematch is
put aside, as the two boxers need to heal from their wounds. Rocky's
popularity sky rockets, and everyone wants to meet, or get an autograph
from the man that almost beat the heavy weight champion of the world. Commercial
promoters want to take advantage of Rocky's popularity also, and try to
get the Itallion Stallion to advertise their products. But Rocky has
something he has to do first. |
Rocky: "I was wondering if you wouldn't mind marrying me to much." |
Rocky takes Adrian to the zoo to propose
to her. She accepts, and the two get married. Rocky made a small
fortune for his fight with Apollo Creed, and he decides that his apartment
is not big enough for the two of them. Rocky and Adrian move into
a nice house and things start looking better and better for them. Rocky
begins to spend a large amount of his money, but decides its ok because
he has gotten many endorsment deals. He tries to do a commercial, but
we find out that Rocky does not read very well. Rocky's money starts
to disappear, and Adrian becomes pregnant. Adrian helps Rocky with
his reading, in hopes that he can land a good office job. But no one
wants him for work, because he never graduated from high school. Rocky
eventually finds a job doing manual laber, but he gets laid off. Rocky
wants to fight again, but Adrian is against it, worrying for her husband.
Mickey is also against a rematch, citing that Rocky's bad eye would
be the end of his life. Meanwhile, Apollo Creed is embarassed that he
couldn't beat Rocky. He startes a slander campaign against Rocky, hoping
that he will accept the rematch. It works, and against Adrian's wishes, Mickey
begins training Rocky for the second battle. |

As Rocky trains for the next fight,
Adrian goes back to the pet shop to make money. She becomes hospitalized
from over work, and delivers the baby prematurely. She then falls
into a coma. Devastated, Rocky stops training so he can be by his wifes
side. Even though the fight is still on, Rocky stays by Adrian's side,
not training for the rematch. Mickey tries to get Rocky to realize that
he has a big fight right around the corner, but the Itallion Stallion refuses
to let his dream get in the way of Adrian's health. Eventually, Adrian
comes out of the coma, and she and Rocky finally get to see their new born
son. Rocky tells Adrian that he will not fight Apollo if she doesn't
want him to. Adrian realizes that Rocky really wants this rematch, so
she tells him to "win". Rocky becomes determined to train as hard as
ever to win. |
Rocky begins training with as much spirit
as he can, but there is someone else training just as hard. Apollo
Creed, this time with 100 percent concentration, is determined to beat the
Itallion Stallion. He trains harder than ever before. The press
and the fans have not been kind to Apollo. They say many nasty things,
and Apollo wants no more of it. With his trainer Tony, Apollo works
with a passion to destroy Rocky within the first 3 rounds of the fight.
Meanwhile, Rocky is training hard too. He runs the streets
of Philadelphia, and trains in Mickey's gym. Adrian eventually goes
home from the hospital with the baby. The birth of Rocky's son gives
him new life, and this time, Rocky is ready to win. |

Adrian and Paulie stay home for
fight #2. As the fight gets underway, Apollo lands a ton of blows
on Rocky. Rocky's nose is broken again early on! As the rounds
continue, Apollo begins to mock Balboa, saying he is "too slow", causing
Rocky to get angry and not concentrate. Rocky goes down a number of
times, but continues to get up everytime. The fight goes through 14
rounds, and both fighters are extremely exhausted. Apollo had won almost
every round point wise, and they both knew it. Tony tries to tell
Apollo to stay away from Rocky the last round, but Apollo feels he HAS to
beat him by knockout. Rocky also knows the only way HE can win is
by K.O. The final round continues, and as Rocky throws a powerful
punch with his last ounce of strength, both men tumble to the mat. The
10 count starts, and the fighters try desperatly to get up. On the
9 count, Apollo collapses and Rocky stands, making him the new heavy weight
champion of the world. Apollo and Rocky embrace, knowing they gave
each other a great fight. Rocky is the new champion, and has achieved
something he never thought possible. He surpassed his dream, and his
life was forever changed again! |

Rocky II was a successful sequel to the original.
Sylvester Stallone directed this film, as well as the next two sequels.
It was good to see the continuing story of the Itallion Stallion
and crew. Mickey has a nice monolouge in the church scene, where
Rocky is saddened by Adrian's coma. There is not much new with Paulie
in this film. He still is angry on the outside, but good in his heart.
Apollo Creed is not really a villian this time around. He has
his own agenda, trying to proof to everyone that he wasn't just a lucky guy
in the first match with Balboa. The two fighters embrace after Rocky
wins, showing that Apollo has respect for him. Adrian and Rocky both
grow as characters, dealing with the new found fame in their lives, and their
new child. The next film goes deeper into the lives of the characters.
